Silver strides – phase 1 day 2

Silver Strides – Phase 2 is a continuation of the Professional Development Programme aimed at sustained engagement with the geriatric population. As the initiative is planned to be conducted five times, each phase focuses on a different common health issue affecting elderly individuals, with the objective of continuous education, motivation, and empowerment 👵👴.

Following the successful completion of diabetes awareness in Phase 1, Phase 2 was conducted at the same location—Fatima Old Age Home—to ensure consistency and better follow-up 📍. The focus topic for this phase was Hypertension, one of the most prevalent and silent health conditions among older adults 🩺. The session emphasized the causes, risk factors, complications, warning signs, and lifestyle modifications required for effective blood pressure control.

A key component of the session was practical health education, where residents were taught how to use a blood pressure (BP) monitoring machine, enabling them to assess their blood pressure independently whenever possible 📊💉. This hands-on approach enhanced their understanding and encouraged self-monitoring, thereby promoting better disease management and prevention of complications.

Through interactive discussions and demonstrations, the session successfully educated and motivated the residents, strengthening both health awareness and essential life skills, while providing valuable professional exposure to the participants 🌟.
