The objective of The Silent Salute was to uphold the dignity, sanctity, and respect of the Indian National Flag by ensuring that damaged, soiled, and discarded flags were not left in public spaces after Republic Day celebrations. The initiative aimed to reinforce responsible patriotism by creating awareness that respect for national symbols extends beyond ceremonial celebrations and continues through conscious post-event responsibility and adherence to national protocols.
Execution
Rotaractors undertook a systematic post–Republic Day drive across high-footfall public spaces at Tank Bund, covering the stretch from the Buddha Statue to Lumbini Park. Over nearly five hours, members carefully searched public areas to identify and collect discarded national flags, ensuring the activity was conducted with sensitivity, discipline, and respect. All collected items—including flags, a wheel flag, and an India map badge—were handled with reverence and disposed of strictly in accordance with the Indian Flag Code, 2002. The execution prioritized dignity over visibility, making the initiative a quiet yet meaningful act of civic responsibility.
Impact
The project ensured the respectful disposal of 11 national symbols, preventing potential disrespect or misuse. The minimal number of flags found reflected increased public awareness, reinforcing positive civic behavior while strengthening national pride and collective responsibility.
